Quote

This quote is really inspiring. I feel that it sums up my project. Each of my editorials have been inspired by the architect Gaudi. Through styling, set design and crops. Looking at shape, movement, pattern and texture. I want to put this quote at the front of my I love book.

Book Cover

I have decided to use this image for the cover of my book. The mosaic tiles have been a huge inspiration on my work and I feel that this is a really strong image. I took this photograph in Park Guell in Barcelona. I love the colour and different patterns created with the tiles.

Shoot 8

I love this editorial so much! Ayo is perfect for this concept and the colours and jewellery pop against her skin. The lighting has created this glow on her skin which makes the images so much more eye catching. In this shoot I continued to experiment with patterned wallpaper backgrounds.

Cecil Beaton

Both of these images are simple and elegant. I love the close up portrait crops making the images strong and showing off emotion and detail. I feel that this style of photography would work well with my Jewellery editorial.

Shoot 7

Taking inspiration from Paola Kudacki I shot at a lower angle to create this taller illusion with the model.
I also decided to create movement and shape with the models hair through out the editorial to reflect the shapes of the chimneys.
The monochrome styling has been carefully pieced together to create structure to reflect Gaudi's architecture.

Paola Kudacki

Paola manages to create movement not only with the clothing but also in the body and hair.
This is something I want to create with my monochrome shoot. The images look alive and fresh.
I want to link my monochrome editorial with the beautiful chimneys on the roof tops in Barcelona, by shooting at a lower angle like Paola Kudacki you can create the illusion of being taller.

Shoot 6

Taking inspiration from Alberta Ferretti, Boden and Mary Katrantzou, I have experimented with crazy patterns, texture and colour. Both with the styling and background. Daniel Jackson's lighting inspired me a long with others through out my research. Soft lighting creating a glow on the models skin, which also enhances the models cheekbones.
I paid close attention to my crops within this editorial - close up portrait images to show of the details in the garments and the full body images to show off the full outfit.

Mary Katrantzou

I have looked at fashion designers for inspiration not just fashion photographers. I want to be inspired by a range of artists, with fashion designers the fabric and textures inspire me and I feel they both create a huge impact on an image. Mary Katrantzou has been a big inspiration with my next shoot. I have experimented with clashing patterns and bold colours.

Casa Milà 'La Pedrera"

The buildings roof recreates an oneiric and suggestive world where chimneys and ventilation ducts are transformed into disturbing anthropomorphic shapes.
More amazing images to be seen in my sketchbook from Casa Milà.

Casa Batlló

The ceiling of the central room is a flat sky that forms a whirl pool which as well as constituting another marine reference, refers as is common with Gaudi, to the idea of generation of nature.
Gaudi modified the inner courtyards and widened them with the aim of letting air and light pass through, which filtered down to the ground floor by a large central skylight. The graduation of colour in the inner courtyard goes from deep blue at the top down to white at the bottom, and the size of the windows larger in the lower floors, are the result of Gaudi's desire to control the entry of light into the building.

La Sagrada Familia

The limited area of ground where La Sagrada Familia is constructed meant that Gaudi has taken full advantage of the space. The current state of works, still in process of construction, gives you an idea of the massive proportions the building will have once it is completed.
The style of La Sagrada Familia is gothic-based from developing controlled geometric structures. The stained glass windows filter the lighting just as Gaudi wished. Simulating the lighting the interior of a forest receives through the leave of the trees.

Palau Güell

  1. Palau Güell was built between 1886 and 1888.
This palace a rising metaphor extends from the dark basement of poverty to the festival of colour at the top culminating in the golden sunlight of wealth. Gaudi used parabolic arch, a geometric shape that appears constantly in all his later work to a great extent and covered the ceilings.
On the roof a series of twenty sculptural chimneys surround the skylight on the central salon. I find with most of Gaudi's architecture you have to look up. It all has shape and height.
Check out my sketch book for more images I took during my time in Barcelona.

Casa Vicens

Casa Vicens was the first important work undertaken by Gaudi. It was built between 1883 and 1888. A notable emphasis of Arab-inspired aspects.
French marigold - Gaudi found this plant onsite and turned it into the motif of the tiling on the facade, creating this geometric shape built in ceramics.
Check out more images from Casa Vicens in my sketchbook.

Park Güell

Check out more images in my sketchbook from the beautiful Park Güell.
The park was full of amazing architecture and vibrate coloured mosaic tiles.

Shoot 4 & 5

These are my favourite images from the two shoots.
I feel that these images are really strong and eye catching, the amount of colour and pattern reflect Gaudi's architecture.
The jewellery is the main focus and the crops allow you to focus on the beautiful detailed pieces.
With my next jewellery shoot I need to experiment with more angles rather than just head on shots. Sophie has amazing eyes and I feel that she looks really power looking directly at the camera.
I want to experiment with a black model as I feel the colours will pop against her skin.

Evaluation

With my 2nd and 3rd shoot I wanted to play around with my initial ideas of colour and monochrome.
Evaluating this shoot I feel I can definitely take things further with the styling and technical side of my images. I experimented with gels and also in postproduction to create a coloured background - taking inspiration from
M Missoni’s look book.
On doing further research and in addition being inspired by Gaudi's work whilst I was away in Barcelona. I can create a much better concept and stronger links between Gaudi and fashion.
I love how architecture has a huge influence on fashion and I want to show this with my “I love” project.
I plan to experiment by adding more colour to the images, through styling and location.  Also I like the idea of trying patterns that clash, which has been a key trend throughout my research.  I want to try different models to achieve my new concept.

Shoot 3

Monochrome - This shoot was a real learning curve.
I experimented with different lighting set ups, soft lighting and harsh lighting to create more shadows.
I feel that the background is too dark and creates this dull feeling. I want this editorial to be clean and crisp.
I like the first image because of the soft lighting on the models skin and you can see the detail of the necklace.

Shoot 2

Shoot 2 - This shoot I wanted to play around with the styling. Mixing block colours and patterns.
These images were taken in the studio. I was inspired by M Missoni's look book with the solid block colour background.
I experimented with gels and selective colour during the post production stage.
I feel that the background in the first two images looks too bold and does't fit well with the images of Rhian.
The next images the orange gel is really subtle, looking at Gaudi's work I feel the colour needs to be bolder.
With my next shoot I want to experiment further with the styling - clashing prints.

Tata Naka

Tata Naka AW14

I have really been inspired by the set design within this look book. I want to experiment with adding more pattern to my images. I feel I could achieve this by using wallpaper as a backdrop.
I love the colour blocking within this collection.

William Morris

I love William Morris's textile print designs. The beautiful bold patterns and colour palettes are so eye catching. The repeated pattern creates such a bold piece of work.

Gustavo Papaleo

Grazia Magazine

This editorial is really eye catching with the bold prints and monochrome colour palette.
The make-up and styling has this 60's feel. The facial expressions makes this editorial bold and fun.
I like the idea of adding graphics.

M Missoni

I have been looking at key trends for my I love project and I have been inspired by M Missoni's collection. I love this look book because of the solid block colour background.
I tried to experiment with this during my second shoot.
I really like the styling within this collection - the clashing prints.

Elle Spain - Xavi Gordo

Elle Spain March 2013

I love this editorial, the styling is beautiful and the model casting is perfect. The clothing and make-up compliment each other really well and the colour palette flows through out.
Check out the rest of the editorial in my sketch book.

Xavi Gordo

2013 - Cat Lady

This image has this mysterious feeling with the jacket collar up at the neck reminding me of a detective coat. The position of the hand shows off the amazing rings but also sightly gives this impression she is trying to hide.
The lighting is amazing - creating highlights and shadows on the models skin.
I love the make-up and hair - simple but strong.

David Bellemere

Vogue Paris November 2012
Styling - Geraldine Saglio

I love this image so much, its simply beautiful.
I have really been inspired by this image with the styling. The styling has added shape and texture to the photograph.
The sleeves on the top create this curved line.
The pose also adds shape to the image - the lighting from behind the models head draws your attention to her face, the arm casually placed on the top of her head then allows your eyes to follow down the arm and onto the beautiful white top.

Boden

This image really inspired me at the start of my project. The image above is on the cover of the Boden look book. I instantly picked it up because of the eye catching prints and fun, playful feeling.
Polka dots and gingham are my favourite prints and together they clash but work so well.
The styling within this image has really inspired me with my final shoots.

Monochrome

My finial inspiration mood board is full of Monochrome images.
Im such a sucker for black and white clothing, its so clean and elegant and I love the silhouettes created.
Most of the images on this mood board the styling is structured, creating shapes and movement which links with architecture.
I want to create a link through my styling with Gaudi's architecture.

Jewellery

I LOVE chunky jewellery so much, I really want to incorporate jewellery into my 'I Love' project.
My new collection of jewellery consist of YSL rings! THEY ARE AMAZING. Such a statement piece.
I love to mix Mediterranean colours.
I also want to play around with layering up different pieces to create a statement and bold look.

Pattern

A key trend that I have noticed is colour blocking and clashing patterns. I have always had a love for this trend and think it would link well with Gaudi's architecture.
This mood board has really inspired me with my concept for an editorial.

Spanish Culture

This is a mood board I created inspiring me with the spanish culture. The food market images were taken during my time in Barcelona.

Barcelona

During the Easter holidays I am visiting Barcelona for a long weekend. I feel this is a great opportunity to take lots of photographs of the great architecture.
I have always had a love for Gaudi's architecture.
There is definitely a link between architecture and fashion.
This is something I would like to experiment with through out my 'I Love' project.

Evaluation

I have always had a love for knitwear, I really like the different textures and shapes wool can create. I initially thought that I wanted to incorporate my love for knitwear into my “I Love” project. This shoot was used for the Natural By Paige Look book. I love the images that I have taken and also the fact that they are on her online shop for Etsy. I feel as though I could push myself further with this project. Since doing more research I have thought of a new concept and feel a lot more passionate about.  The new concept relates to my life and also my childhood growing up in Spain. In the Easter holiday’s I am going to Barcelona and I think this will be a great opportunity to take lots of photographs whilst I'm away either just for inspiration or to use within my project.

Natural By Paige

The first two images are my favourite, I love the close up crop of the second image. It has this futuristic feel with the snood over the models head. I think this image is really strong because the model is looking directly at the camera, during you into the image.
Paige wanted a natural and relaxed fell to the look book and I feel this has been achieved through the styling, lighting and location.
I used natural lighting and I love the beautiful highlighted skin of the model, creating this fresh look.
Natural By Paige has a wooden logo and I wanted to make sure you could see this within the images.
I think the mint green gate compliments the colours of the snoods.

Sandra Backland

Sandra Backlund, a designer who turns knitted clothing into a piece of art. Mostly famous for her
three-dimensional collage knitting. Sandra Backland could be defined as a sculptor rather than a fashion designer. Her desire to discover different materials and techniques as well as her passion for quality and tradition make Sandra’s clothes one of a kind. Her artistic skills transform knitwear to unique fascinating fashion items.

Knitwear - Mood Board

During my initial research I noticed my love for knitwear. During the speed dating session with Fashion Design, one of the designers had designed and created beautiful snoods and scarfs and was looking for someone to photograph a look book for her online website. I thought this would be a great opportunity and decided to get in contact with Paige to shoot a look book.

Inspiration

During the trending project I was really inspired by my surroundings. This beautiful gate is down a little lane that I walk down everyday to uni. I Love the mint coloured gate and clean crisp brick work. The mint green colour pops out against the red brick and grey stone wall.
I have always had a love for architecture and want to include beautiful locations within my I Love project.

I Love Moodboard

I Love to create mood boards and regularly use tumblr and as a inspiration board.
I think a mood board can say a lot about a person - their likes and personality.
In this mood board I have included fashion trends I like, locations for example Barcelona and tropical islands.
By creating this mood board it has helped me come up with concepts for my I Love project.

Initial Ideas

I created this mind map including key works that 'I Love'.
