Palau Güell

  1. Palau Güell was built between 1886 and 1888.
This palace a rising metaphor extends from the dark basement of poverty to the festival of colour at the top culminating in the golden sunlight of wealth. Gaudi used parabolic arch, a geometric shape that appears constantly in all his later work to a great extent and covered the ceilings.
On the roof a series of twenty sculptural chimneys surround the skylight on the central salon. I find with most of Gaudi's architecture you have to look up. It all has shape and height.
Check out my sketch book for more images I took during my time in Barcelona.
